Air Force Emblem

Walter William Hatton, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at home on Monday, January 23, 2012 following a short illness. Walt was born May 29, 1929 in Cicero, IL. He graduated from New Buffalo High School in 1947 and served honorably in the U.S. Air Force. He graduated from Coyne Electrical School of Chicago and worked as an electrician for over 40 years. Walt also owned and operated his own refrigeration business.

Walter married Haroldine Fox of Trail Creek, IN on Sept. 29, 1958. She survives him; along with their children, Nancy (Glenn) Scowcroft, Susan (Kerry) Soulcheck, and William (Colleen) Hatton; grandchildren, Heather (Steven) Claxton, Ben Soulcheck, Nathan and Daniel Scowcroft, Sam and Lilly Hatton; and a great grandson, Alexander Claxton.

Walt loved hunting, his beagles, and their jack russell terrier Snoopy. He enjoyed his tractors and the fruits and vegetables from the large garden he planted every year. He also enjoyed feeding and watching the birds, and reading about history. He maintained his home and belongings with pride, never satisfied until a job was done right.

Walter is also survived by a sister, Ruth Hatton of Wooster, OH; a brother, Edward (Roberta) Hatton of New Buffalo; and nieces and nephews. His parents, William and Agnes Hatton, preceded him in death.

Friends are invited to visit with Walter's family at Sommerfeld Chapel in New Buffalo on Thursday, from 5:00-8:00 PM (Eastern Time). A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1237 E. Coolspring Ave., Michigan City, IN on Friday, Jan. 27, at 10:30 AM (Central Time), following a 9:30 AM visitation Friday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, where Walter was a member. For those wishing to leave a message of condolence, please do so at www.sommerfeldchapel.com
